Brooklyn’s AbunDance Academy of the Arts Presents

“CROWN”
A New Short Film that

celebrates Black Hair, Black Dance and Black Beauty.

Brooklyn, NY – AbunDance Academy of the Arts, an established 501(c)3 arts organization dedicated to offering children and adults affordable dance, theater, and musical instruction at all levels, presents a new short film by Karisma Jay and Nofisat Almaroof entitled “CROWN”.

“CROWN”, a short film Co-Written and Co-Directed by Karisma Jay, MFA (STOMP, Common’s When We Move, The Juilliard School) and Nofisat Almaroof, MD (Look Back at It, NYU) features Nirine S. Brown (Donald Glover’s SWARM, Tyler Perry’s Ruthless and Abbott Elementary) and introduces Kennedy Salley, an AbunDance Academy student and Freshman Dance Major of Laguardia HS (The Fame School). Inspired by the C.R.O.W.N Act which stands for “Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair, “CROWN”, tells the story of an aspiring young Ballet dancer trying to tame her hair into submission as she embarks on the most important audition of her life. “CROWN” is a coming of age story for All Ages to enjoy. With an all Black cast and original music by Agyakomah, this short film celebrates Black Hair, Black Dance and Black Excellence. “

With a supporting cast of New York natives and working performing artists, “CROWN” aims to celebrate and amplify Curls, Kinks, Frizz and Afros everywhere while encouraging everyone to honor their CROWNS!
